For every pet living with a happy family, there is an animal in a shelter waiting to find a loving home. Today we'd like to tell you the story of some lovely kittens who were brought up by some very lovely foster parents. And as it turns out, they met some puppy pals along the way.
The whole group came together by way of Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. The five felines were found at just 2 weeks old, living in a bush after having been likely abandoned by their mother. Foster parents contacted through Kitten Rescue's network nurtured the animals — named Venus, Sigmund, Kimsha, Mitzvah and Ron Ron — back to health, bottle-feeding them as they grew.
Soon after, staffers brought five boxer puppies had lost their mom to the same foster home. The generous foster family bottle-raised this (still-nameless) litter, too, and "the puppies and kittens all became fast friends," Kitten Rescue president Ben Lehre tells PEOPLEPets.com. Lehre notes that all 10 youngsters “love to play and sleep together."
The cats are available for adoption through Kitten Rescue, while Take Me Home Rescue (www.takemehome.tv) of Santa Monica, Calif., is handling the dogs. The animals are all receiving vaccinations, and will be spayed and neutered before adoption. "It's like an animal rescue version of the Brady Bunch. The kitties are dog-friendly, and the puppies are cat-friendly," Lehre says. "And since they were all bottle-raised, they are incredibly social and people-friendly, as well."
Kitten Rescue is Los Angeles's largest no-kill, non-profit rescue group. Since opening in 1997, the organization has saved and placed more than 10,000 cats into loving homes. In 2005, the group acquired the Kitten Rescue Sanctuary, a private shelter and boarding facility that houses up to 150 cats. Though some felines do live at the Sanctuary, most stay in foster homes until they are adopted.
Kitten Rescue is managed entirely by volunteers and is funded almost purely by donations and adoption fees, so visit its website to learn how you can help. www.kittenrescue.org
