In Loving Memory of Lyric 1999-2010

Before today, I had no name. They called me “kennel # 353” and my life mattered to no one; not to the person who let me loose on the streets to fend for myself, not to the people who came to the shelter to adopt a dog and passed me by for a younger puppy…..or a purebred…..or a smaller dog that didn’t take up so much space. Before today, I sat in a concrete cell, alone and scared, in the very back of an overcrowded shelter where people couldn’t even see me. Before today, I was scheduled to die in 48 hours because no one was there to take me home.

But today, all of that changed. Someone came to see me today wearing a magical hat that said “Take Me Home.” She told me the story of Lyric, a beautiful girl whose life inspired an amazing woman to start an animal rescue. This rescue was created to help dogs just like me. The overlooked. The forgotten. The dogs that sit in the corners of crowded shelters as they watch the puppies and the purebreds going home to their new families. And so quietly they sit, praying that their life will matter to someone.

Today I learned that Lyric had to go to a place that knows no pain; where dogs like me aren’t forgotten and left alone in concrete cells and dogs like her don’t have to hurt anymore. But I also learned that Lyric is still very hard at work because there are many lives like mine yet to be saved. Today I learned that Lyric sent her friends at Take Me Home to save my life in her memory. And today I was given the highest of honors when the people of Take Me Home told me that from this day forward, I shall be called Lyric.

I am now at a beautiful safe haven in Mission Viejo where I can sleep in a warm, soft bed, take hikes on a pretty nature trail with some really nice volunteers, and get lots of TLC from an amazing lady named Brynn who promised me that my turn is coming, that my family is out there, she just needs to let them know that I am here and that I am ready to go home.

Before today, I had no name. Thank you Lyric for giving me yours. Thank you for teaching your friends at Take Me Home that when God closes one door, he always opens another. And when God calls me home to be with you, please meet me at the Bridge so that I can have the privilege of meeting the one who made this day possible for me.

Your ever so grateful friend,

Lyric

UPDATE! Lyric was adopted by a wonderful family in less than one week following her transfer to Mission Viejo. A very special thank you to our friend Brynn who made it possible to answer Lyric’s plea: “Take Me Home.”
