“From Dirt to Snow” - A Rescue Story

The day Lola was rescued, it was questionable if she would survive. Lola was dumped at the county shelter with one of the most extreme cases of demodex mange the rescue community has ever seen. Hunched over in a concrete cell, unable to walk, Lola’s feet were so swollen with infection, and her body was completely covered in open, bleeding sores. To add insult to injury, she was covered in dirt; a sign that she was forced to live in filth, without any shelter.
Once at the vet, Lola lay lifeless on the medical room floor as IVs pumped hydration into her lifeless body. She was then given a medicated bath to remove the thick layer of dried infection that encased her head to toe. She was administered medications to combat her severe mange and secondary infections, as well as pain medication as the slightest touch caused her to cry in pain. Once clean, hydrated, and adequately medicated, TMH volunteers had to leave Lola at the hospital and pray that she would make it through the first night.
Well, Lola indeed made it through the first night, and not only did she make it, but she THRIVED! And once Lola was well enough to leave the vet’s office, we received an inquiry from a wonderful woman who had read Lola’s story and fallen for her. Rachel wanted to know how soon she could meet Lola and give her the life she so deserved. A meeting was arranged and Lola jumped into Rachel’s arms and never looked back.
Lola’s days of living in the dirt are over! She now spends her winters frolicking in the snow at her winter cabin and her summers lounging in the sun alongside her pool. It is story’s like Lola’s that remind us why we rescue!
